Dedicated to Yvonne Dunbar and Priya Reddy (warcry) of War Cry Cinema

When you were gone
I didn’t know how to carry on

I thought you were gone forever
I missed you because you are kind and clever

That day, that day
I was a mess

Sad, scared, alone
And you’re beautiful
I thought that it was supposed to be like this
And you I really missed

’Cos after all
You’re my wonderwall
A wonderful smile you gave me
Maybe you were the one who could save me

I do want to change the world
I am looking for a new Scotland
Am I looking for another girl?

I loved you then as I love you still
I put you on a pedestal and you gave me a pill
I don’t want to let you go
But I was nervous about letting you know

You don’t want to change the world
You’re not looking for a new Scotland
Am I looking for another girl?

Could it be someone I already know?
Will I break your heart by telling you so?
Do I love Priya more than you?
And does she love me too?

She does want to change the world
She is looking for a new USA
Is it her I’m looking for?
Could I love anyone else more?

In New York, the radicals are strong
And to see her, Priya, I still long
Can she step outside of her institution
We could be strong and lead a revolution

To the Belly of the Beast, I may have to go
’Cos she’s the most brilliant person I know
She’s simply the best
Better than all the rest
She
passed the test

Of interviewing delegates at a Republican Convention
She out-thought and exposed them, showing no tension
I saw it on a DVD

The FBI weren’t naïve enough to let her stay free
But what could they do?
Many anarchists she knew

So they took her to somewhere like Auschwitz!
Concentration camps still exist in the 21st Century!
The USA is emulating Nazi Germany
They tried to smear her as mad

But I revealed her brilliance
In my song Belly of the Beast
I said her life can’t be easy to say the least
I asked if she had escaped the attention of the FBI
Surely they tried to wreck her mind as well as spy

Do I need her?
She needs me
Together we could make history
I love her
Will she love me?
Am I the only one who can set her free?

’Cos after all
I’m her wonderwall
I’m brainy as well as tall

In love with her, I had to fall

If she joins my Foundation for PR-based Socialism
It could soon be the end of global capitalism!

But you are here in my time of need
And for you, my heart bleeds
Maybe I need someone who cares most about me

And not Priya, who most wants the world to become free
You both have great kindness and beauty
And Priya again, I need to see
To know one way or the other
Who I want to become my lover

In the meantime, you’re my wonderwall
And I hope together, we’ll have a ball!

I have recorded the song as a musical poem, in MP3 format.
