What Can I Do?
Inspired by What Can I Do? – The Corrs
Written by Steve Wallis, 22/3/2007
Dedicated to Cath Bann (reminiscing about Valentine’s Day 2003)
I haven’t slept very much in days
It’s not been long since we have talked
And I have chatted you up many times
I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong
CHORUS:
What can I do so you will love me?
What can I do so you will care?
What can I do to win your heart completely?
What can I do to take you there?
Between you and me there was dynamite!
But when I told you that, you did not show delight
You care about the world, you are very bright
And you are featured a lot on my website
CHORUS
Lots more waiting
Lots more aching
A little more crying
Lots more trying
Maybe there’s nothing more to say
And in a funny way I’m enjoying it
Because the power is yours and mine
And I will enjoy the challenge with wit
CHORUS
What can I do
Without you?
I have recorded this song as a musical poem, now available as a Windows Media Audio (WMA) file or in MP3 format.
This song is poignant for me because I included some of the above lyrics in an e-Valentines Card I sent Cath to give her strength and demonstrate my love for her, when she was in court for pouring paint over a BP stall at the CBI conference in Manchester. Cath came back from Cornwall, where she had moved to with her partner Nathan in March that year, to appear in court and (representing herself) persuaded a jury to let her off scot free due to the crimes of BP in Colombia. I did not find out about the latter court appearance; I would have loved to be there!
