Did They Know It Was G8 Time?

Tune based on Do They Know It’s Christmas? Band Aid 20 (written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure)

Lyrics written and tune modified by Steve Wallis, 14/7/2006

It’s not G8 time! There’s no need to be afraid!
At G8 time, they said they’d help but I didn’t trust them!
In our world of plenty, there have been so many shattered dreams.
Go on strike around the world even if it’s not G8 time!
At G8 time they plotted, so we couldn’t just have fun.
And the G8 suits that plotted there were Monsanto’s allies in power.
So REVOLT
NOW so we’ll be in power instead of them!
There’s probably a lot of GM food in Africa after G8 time.
ALL FOOD SHOULD BE ORGANIC AFTER G8 TIME!
And there’s probably a lot of GM drink in Africa after G8 time.
ALL DRINK SHOULD BE ORGANIC AFTER G8 TIME!
And there’s still wars in Africa and the Middle East after G8 time.
THERE SHOULD BE PEACE AROUND THE WORLD AFTER G8 TIME!
And there would still be dictators in Africa after G8 time.
THERE SHOULD BE REAL DEMOCRACY EVERYWHERE AFTER G8 TIME!

AND NOT ELECTION BY COMPUTERS – BUSH DIDN’T REALLY WIN!

And there’s still tax havens in the world after G8 time.
RICH PEOPLE SHOULD BE FORCED TO PAY TAX AFTER G8 TIME!
IF THEY WON’T, WE SHOULD CONFISCATE THEIR ASSETS!
The greatest gift we can give them is socialism!
But the next best thing would be ethical capitalism!.
When we all rule the world –
No-one poor any more!
Did they know it was G8 time at all?
Here’s to us –
Go on strike for everyone good!
Here’s to them –
Underneath that burning sun!
They use GM mind control but can’t stop people fighting back!

Controlling minds is one of organisations like the CIA’s new tacks!
Go on strike! – repeated three times

GO ON STRIKE!
Do a BOLIVIA, whether or not it’s G8 time
!
Do a BOLIVIA, don’t wait for G8 time again! – repeated twice

The lyrics have been changed considerably since the recording made shortly before the 2005 G8 summit (on the 30th of June 2005 at the Cutting Rooms, Abraham Moss Centre, City College, Manchester). You can read an explanation for the changes, which were made to massively improve the politics of the song, by clicking here. You will soon be able to download a song with these or similar lyrics, performed by the new Galaxia line-up, but in the meantime you can download the 2005 G8 summit version of the track in MP3 format. Note that his singing performance was poor due to being very out-of-tune when he first attempted the track and having to make do with the recording several takes later; he believes that subconsciously he sang badly because the original lyrics were deeply flawed.
