Red Day

Optimism

Inspired by The World Is Planned Galaxia/Red Day and Tears For Me Katrina & the Waves

Dedicated to Darshna Patel

You live in London town
Your skin is quite brown
I sometimes have a frown
Or act like a clown

But you laugh, laugh, laugh and be happy
Could you smile, smile, smile and be with me?
Maybe not now, the time is not ripe
But maybe later, you’ll be back in my life

You live in London town
Your eyes are deep brown
When I left I felt down
I returned to Glasgow town

Will you laugh, laugh, laugh and be happy
Could you smile, smile, smile without me?
To meet again, the time is not ripe
But maybe later, you’ll be back in my life

I’m worried about a racial war
A desperate act to split the poor
I’m worried about J Craig Venter
Releasing artificial bacteria

But you laugh, laugh, laugh and be happy
Your optimism also makes me cheery
A lesson from you from when you were in my life
Remember me, even if you’re somebody else’s wife

Because I understand
That the world is planned
My free will has a hand
In the struggle for every land

I will not lie
And just sit by
And let Venter try
To make millions die

Maybe I could use my language SDML
To stop Venter’s plans for hell
Or is Venter really good
Maybe I could
Unite with geneticists at his institute
But I’ll have to be wary of the forbidden fruit

I have recorded the song as a musical poem, in MP3 format.
