Missing You

Inspired by Don’t You Want Me Baby The Human League and Like A Virgin Madonna

Written by Steve Wallis, 14/7/2007

Dedicated to Emma (who I knew as a psychiatric nurse in Manchester)

You were working as a nurse in a psychiatric ward
When I met you
I fell in love and you got a new job
That is also true

You kept coming back and I still love you
I thought you did too
But I had to move so far away from you
I had to go somewhere radical and new
But I still miss you baby
Don’t you miss me too?
You kept my spirits up in a time of strife
You promised you wouldn’t leave my life
So where are you baby?
Where are you now?
I’ve moved on but I’ll never forget you
Life would have been awful if I’d never met you
You could get back in touch if you really wanted to
And I want you to
I regarded you as my best friend but wanted more
I thought you did too
I still miss you baby
I still miss you now
You came to visit me with frizzy hair
You were so beautiful that I hardly recognised you
But I had loved you before with your hair in a bob
You flirted with me but not too much to lose your job
I still want you baby
I still want you now
But would you put up with me being a part-time lover?
Or just a friend?
Would you love me too much?
Is that why we’re not in touch?
Are you still a virgin?
Can I kiss you properly for the very first time?
I am still a virgin
I’d love to feel your heartbeat next to mine
I know you love me baby
I know you love me now
But are you stepping aside for another lover?
Did you have to let me go
Even though we loved each other so?
I hope the answer is no!

I have recorded the song as a musical poem, in MP3 format.
