Kingston Quay
Inspired by Kingston Town – UB40 (but varying the tune; we may deviate more from the pattern of that song if we ever record it)
Written by Steve Wallis
Version 4, 31/7/2007
Dedicated to <I’ve found it very difficult to make my mind up with this song; in fact it is quite bad politically so probably nobody!>
Our love seemed to explode
But our feelings lingered on
There’ll be wonders for everyone, woah
Red stars shine so bright
And we’ll take over the world
There’ll be magic in Kingston Quay
REPEATED:
Oh, Kingston Quay
The place where we can be
If I lead the world
I’ll invite our friends to see
Us lovers at play
I won’t be King
And you won’t be Queen
We won’t have a palace
But we’ll have things, yeah
And I...I may be President
And you may be Minister for the Environment
We may still be living in Kingston Quay
Please come to live with me in Kingston Quay
I want to love you in Kingston Quay
We have not recorded this song and probably will never do so, because I do not want to become leader of the world, or even a particular country, as I once thought I might like to do. I will concentrate on change from below, while helping others in positions of power above, before and after the revolution. I don’t want to be seen as some sort of super-being who could become a dictator, although perhaps pretending that was useful for a while...
