Does it matter if God exists?

Inspired by Unforgettable Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole

Written by Steve Wallis

Version 3, 6/3/2007

Dedicated to the late Nathalie Monier

Unforgettable, so near then so far
Unforgettable, do you circle that star?

Oh darling, you were so incredible
That I found it unbelievable
That your death was not deliberate
The world we tried to liberate

Between us there was chemistry
Your boyfriend was so ugly
But he was also in the party
I was filled with jealousy
But I couldn’t act on it
I didn’t want to cause a split
I didn’t think it a socialist act
And confidence with women I lacked

Now you are gone
The struggle goes on
I’ll try to change the world through song
But for you I still long

Are you up there looking down on me?
Will I see you when the world is free?
Do you live in outer space?
Will I save the human race?

When you were here
I loved you, my dear
But I didn’t say so
Your death came as such a blow

Oh darling, you were so political
For you a smile was typical
Our love was not physical
To see you again would be a miracle

Unforgettable, I long for that day
Unforgettable, would it help if I pray?

Perhaps heaven is where you are
Maybe it includes that far away star
Does it matter if God exists?
If not, the galaxy may be full of socialists!

Or maybe you are gone forever
I have to face the thought that I may never
See you again

I will find out after the revolution
When earthlings have reached a resolution
When good has triumphed over bad
But if I don’t see you then, I’ll be very sad

I have recorded this song as a musical poem, now available as a Windows Media Audio (WMA) file or in MP3 format.
