I wish Cath was a folk rocker with flowers in her hair
In 1990 and 2003, revolution was in the air
We weren’t born too late, there are many who still care
Oh, I wish Cath was a folk rocker with flowers in her hair
An anarchist and a Trotskyist
Loved each other but never even kissed
I think Cath is a lonely girl
Trying to find her way in this messed up mixed up world
I’ve seen no other faces quite like hers
There are so many broken hearts in the world
I’ve been on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
My shadow’s been the only one beside me
My broken heart’s been the only one that’s beating
I had such deep emotion, she took my breath away
I hope she comes to Glasgow, and with me wants to stay
We can do serious things together but still find time to play
And the forces of big business won’t lead us astray
I am no longer a Trotskyist, she may no longer be an anarchist
We have influenced each other politically, but it’s her heart I have mostly missed
I want her to help me in the struggle for a socialist world based on PR
And I want her here, rather than just influencing me from afar
She is so far away from me
So far I just can’t see
I love her so much
But we aren’t even in touch
I long for the day
When to me she will say
“I think I love you”
Because I love her too
I wowed her with my rendition of “Great Balls Of Fire”
A song to win her heart and possibly inspire
Her to learn to play an instrument or sing
So she can join a band that is very left-wing
